TECHNICAL DOSSIER & SWISS SOURCING

Connectivity and semiconductor equipment: sourcing electrical function and precision mechanics

Connectivity is not merely the shape of a contact. Conductivity, contact resistance, insertion force, coating durability, mating cycles, insulation, sealing and environment determine both design and process. Parts for semiconductor equipment add cleanliness, vacuum, material and traceability requirements.

OVEL separates two requirements: custom contacts and connection components; and mechanical components or subassemblies for semiconductor manufacturing, test and handling equipment. OVEL is not presented as a semiconductor fab. The search targets Swiss manufacturers able to document the requested characteristics.

PROJECT SCOPE

01

Contacts, pins and sockets

Turned or stamped male and female contacts, crimp or solder zones, clips, springs and custom geometry with material and coating matched to current and cycles.

02

Connector bodies and assemblies

Insulating components, housings, shielding, overmoulding, assembly, cable and functional testing where the need goes beyond an individual contact.

03

Components for semiconductor equipment

Precision parts for vacuum, optics, positioning, lithography, test or wafer handling, with application-defined cleanliness, low-outgassing materials and packaging.

Electrical performance and coatings

Base material and layer system must be chosen together. Coating thickness only has meaning with underlayer, functional zone, porosity and measurement method.

  • copper alloys, brass, bronze, nickel and spring materials
  • gold, silver, tin, nickel or specified multilayer systems
  • contact resistance, temperature rise and current rating
  • selective zones, adhesion, corrosion and operating cycles

Environment and integration

Mechanical, electrical and environmental interfaces determine the supplier profile and required tests.

  • vibration, shock, temperature, humidity and corrosion
  • IP rating, sealing, vacuum or controlled atmosphere
  • insertion and retention force and mating cycles
  • ESD, particulate cleanliness and appropriate packaging

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

A dimensionally conforming part can still fail electrically

The mechanical drawing needs performance requirements: initial and aged resistance, current, temperature rise, insertion force, continuity and environmental durability. Contact-zone surface and coating are often more critical than a non-functional dimension.

For semiconductor equipment, we check capability in contamination control, cleaning, packaging, vacuum-compatible materials and change control. Test responsibility is allocated between component, assembly and customer system.

PREPARE AN ACTIONABLE RFQ

The information needed for a technically useful response

A clear dossier prevents incomparable quotations and hidden assumptions. Send what is available for the current project stage; missing points are converted into technical questions before the RFQ is circulated.

  • drawing and definition of assembly interfaces
  • current, voltage, signal and target contact resistance
  • forces, cycles, temperature and use environment
  • material, coating, functional zones and RoHS/REACH restrictions
  • cleanliness, ESD, vacuum and packaging requirements
  • quantities, tests, reports and acceptance criteria

Expected qualification output

  • shortlist of partners whose capability profile matches the need
  • explicit feasibility questions and assumptions
  • clear boundary between in-house and outsourced operations
  • comparable basis for lead time, cost, quality and capacity

OVEL’s exact role

OVEL is not the workshop manufacturing the part and does not claim its partners’ certifications. We structure the requirement, search for suitable capacity in Switzerland, review the available evidence of fit and coordinate the technical exchange. The selected manufacturer remains responsible for final feasibility, its quotation, processes, inspections and contractual commitments.

FREQUENT TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

Decide faster without understating industrial risk

Does OVEL source catalogue connectors?

OVEL focuses on custom contacts, components and solutions when specific Swiss capability is needed. A catalogue reference may still define the functional baseline.

Can coating capability be qualified?

We can identify a partner able to manufacture and document the required system. Base material, underlayer, finish, zones and measurement method should be specified.

What does semiconductor mean on this page?

Components and subassemblies for manufacturing, lithography, test, vacuum and handling equipment—not chip fabrication by OVEL.

Which tests are required?

Depending on function: resistance, force, cycles, ageing, vibration, sealing, cleanliness or dimensional inspection. Responsibility is allocated between component and system.

Does OVEL manufacture contacts?

No. OVEL qualifies and coordinates the Swiss manufacturer responsible for production and agreed evidence.
